I know that we’re well past summer, but I’m thinking ahead to next summer with our Student Ministry. Summer can be a critical time to build unity and identity as a youth group. Most summers on our calendar are filled with camps, VBS, and other opportunities to serve and learn. These events can be great catalysts for our students to connect with each other and God, resulting in group unity and identity.
As we look to next summer in terms of planning, we want to make sure that we offer events and opportunities that continue build unity and identity into our youth group. We are prayerfully making plans for Summer 2015. Our events cost money, so we want to make sure we get a “jump start” on raising funds for these events.
On Wednesday night, October 29, we are hosting a “Pumpkin Palooza” during our Connect services. There will be Fall treats and activities that encourage family participation. During this event, the Student Ministry will have a Dessert Auction to help raise funds for summer camps/events. The dessert auction will be a “silent auction” so you can write down your bids, go hang out with your friends and family, then come back and check your bids.
Would you please consider coming that night to enjoy the evening with friends and family, but also buy a dessert, (or 2), from our students to send them to camp? A typical week of camp usually costs each participant $350 and we have families that have more than one kid who want to participate. Your generosity with our fundraisers will bless our students and, ultimately, our church body.
As you consider coming and supporting this event, keep in mind that our Middle School and High School students make up about 1/2 of our volunteer workforce for preView and KidzView as well as serving communion and helping clean the building! Many of our students serve at Valley View and give back of their own time. Please prayerfully consider supporting our kids and this fundraising opportunity.
