Growing up, my father was a preacher at a small church in Oklahoma. Despite how busy it made us every year, we all looked forward to Easter weekend. Some years at Easter, our church would host a “Sunrise Service” to commemorate Easter morning when Jesus’ disciples woke up early in the morning to find the empty tomb where Jesus’ body should have been. It was meant to celebrate – first thing in the morning – the miracle of the resurrection.
However, for me and my siblings, the only miracle on that morning was getting us out of bed and semi-presentable to mumble through some victorious songs and eat biscuits and gravy. Don’t get me wrong, we loved Easter and what it meant… just not at 5:30 in the morning, especially when the Sunrise Service fell on those crazy “Spring Forward an hour” days.
At Valley View, we don’t have a Sunrise Service, but we do gather throughout the weekend to celebrate the miracle of the Resurrection of Jesus. One of the ways that we celebrate is with an event called “Eggstravaganza!” This event is great for families and friends to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the warmer Spring weather.
Eggstravaganza will be held outside in our park area from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5. We will have Easter Egg Hunts for children ages birth through 5th grade, as well as snack food to enjoy, bounce houses, crafts, cookie decorating and more. The event is free! We hope you will bring a friend along with you.
This event is also a fun opportunity to get involved by volunteering! Here are some ways you can help:
- Donate candy! We prefer it not be chocolate as it melts very quickly. Candy can be dropped off in the Lobby by March 29.
- Help stuff eggs! Let us know if you would be willing to take some eggs home to fill or you may come do it here at Valley View.
- Set up and tear down.
- General help with things such as manning bounce houses, “hiding the eggs”, and lots of other general needs.
If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact Mike Havens (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Camille Stowe (email@example.com). We look forward to a great Easter weekend as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus!
