Great News for our Student Ministry!

Dear Parents-

I wanted to make you aware that our Student Minister search is over! We have vetted and interviewed numerous candidates over the past several months, and we have absolutely covered this process and search with prayer! We are excited to announce that we have hired Joel Harney to be our Student Minister!

Joel and his wife Bayli, come to us after spending time as the Senior Minister at Crossroads Christian Church in Baxter Springs, KS. Prior to becoming the Senior Minister, Joel worked at CCC as their Worship and Student Minister. In addition to serving at CCC, Joel has spent time coaching Middle School boys basketball at a local Middle School, and working with Christ in Youth in their Mix program and with their Believe conferences. All of these have given him many hours in ministry loving and leading students.

Joel will begin working with us May 24. He will be leading the High School Sunday School class this weekend. On Sunday, May 31, we will formally introduce him to the congregation. On Wednesday night, June 3, the Student Ministry will host a cookout for parents and students to meet Joel and Bayli. The cookout will begin at 6:00 and go until 8:00 p.m. We will serve hamburgers and hot dogs. The event will be held at the park on the West side of the building and will be a “come and go” type event.

A very practical way to welcome Joel and Bayli would be to invite them to lunch some Sunday after worship services. It would be a huge blessing to you and to Joel and Bayli if you could discuss youth ministry, youth culture, ministry, and life over a meal over the next few weeks as they get settled. If you are interested in hosting them for lunch  after the morning services on either May 24, May 31, or June 7 please let me know asap!

Please be in prayer for Joel and Bayli as they transition from their current ministry to our congregation. Here are a couple of prayer items for them:

  • God’s blessing on them as they close out their current ministry.
  • For Joel and Bayli to find a new place to live.
  • For Joel as he “hits the ground running” with camps and events. Pray that God will help help him to build great relationships with our students, volunteers, and families.
  • For Joel and Bayli to learn how to navigate and understand their new community where they will be living.
  • For our Student Ministry to raise up Godly men and women to impact the world.

We are thrilled to bring Joel and Bayli to the team at VVCC! I trust that each of you will do your best to welcome them and offer your help as you feel lead.

Looking forward to great things!
