Into the Streets

“And the angel of the Lord said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.’ ” -Luke 2:10

Have you seen that joy? Have you known that joy? Have you come to live in that joy?

Indeed, we have good news of great joy; His name is Jesus. He is this good news of great joy for all people. As a body of believers, Valley View longs for our city to experience this good news of Jesus; for our city to be filled with the great joy of our great God. It is our desire that the name of the Lord Jesus would dwell richly in Dallas, for the joy of the people and for the glory of His name. What an amazing thing that the Almighty God would use His people to deliver His good news of great joy Into the Streets.

Into the Streets is a term we use to identify the week during the summer in which, as a congregation, we LoveDallas through various ministries in the DFW area. This is a great opportunity to serve alongside other brothers and sisters who desire for the Lord’s name to dwell richly in Dallas. We also use this opportunity to introduce believers at Valley View to local ministry opportunities that they can be a part of throughout the year. A great example of this is the ministry at Our Calling, who we served with last year during Into the Streets.

Here is a list of the opportunities for Into the Streets 2016, Friday, June 24th through Monday, June 27th.

01prayerNight of Prayer – Friday, June 24, 6:30pm – 7:30pm. If we truly believe that the Lord is powerful and that He works through our prayers, this is perhaps the most important event of the week. During this hour we will pray for the people of our city, and ask the Lord to take our service during Into the Streets, and bless it for His purposes. We want everybody to be here for this.

02care.jpgCare Packages – Friday, June 24, 7:45pm – 9pm. During this time, we will be putting together care packages for families who are sojourners in our land. These packages will include things such as kitchen utensils, snacks, and a New Testament. On Sunday afternoon, there will be a team to distribute these packages to Vickery Meadow Apartments. The Vickery Meadow area is one of the most densely populated areas of Dallas and is home to many immigrants and refugees. This will be a great opportunity to show hospitality to those in our city who feel very much like outsiders.

03shnStop Hunger Now Warehouse – Saturday, June 25, 8:45am – noon. For the last two years, Valley View has hosted a Stop Hunger Now event, in which we put together meals that are shipped to hungry people all over the World. And they actually have a warehouse in Grand Prairie. During our time at their warehouse, we will be labeling bags, stacking boxes, washing dishes, and doing other tasks to help them prepare for upcoming meal packaging events.

04habitat.jpgHabitat for Humanity – Saturday, June 25, 6:45am- noon. Habitat for Humanity helps to build up communities through the construction of homes. We will be assisting with the construction of one of these homes that will go a family in Dallas that otherwise would not be able to afford a house.

05reconciliation.jpgReconciliation Outreach – Saturday, June 25, 11am – 1:30pm. We will be cooking and serving lunch, as well as visiting with and encouraging the community at Reconciliation Outreach. Reconciliation Outreach is a ministry serving the homeless, addicted, impoverished and working poor of inner-city Dallas.

06sack.jpgMetrocrest Services: Sack Summer Hunger – Saturday, June 25, 9:30am- 11am. Designed to help feed children who qualify for reduced meals during the school year, weekly Sack Summer Hunger deliveries are made by volunteers on Saturday mornings to designated sites within Metrocrest’s area of service. The delivery team will be responsible for distributing food to clients’ homes or apartments who do not have transportation. **Volunteers will go in teams of three (3 volunteers per one vehicle) and must be willing to drive their own vehicle for deliveries; all deliveries are within close proximity to reduce driving.

07deliverDelivering Care Packages – Sunday, June 26, 1:30pm – 4pm. On Friday, June 24, another team from Valley View will be putting together care packages that will be distributed to the community in Vickery Meadow. At this event, we will simply go from door to door delivering these packages. Again, this will be a great opportunity to show hospitality to those who feel very much like outsiders in our city.

08ourcallingOur Calling – Monday, June 27, 6pm – 9pm. Our Calling is an organization that provides life skills, addiction recovery, food, clothing, and most importantly, the love and truth of Jesus to residents of Dallas who are without homes. We will be hosting a cook-out for this ministry, as we watch a movie together on an outdoor movie screen. After everyone has eaten, we will pause the movie while someone from our team shares a devotional thought.
